A "Sliding" PC Project by Intel and Samsung

The future of smartphones may involve foldable devices, but PCs are not moving in that direction. Instead, Intel and Samsung Display are collaborating on slidable panels that resemble designs for rollable phones like those Oppo unveiled last year.

Today, Samsung Display CEO JS Choi came on stage during Intel's Innovation address to demonstrate a prototype PC that can slide out to reveal a larger display. By default, the tablet has a 13-inch screen, but it can be expanded to a 17-inch display.

The manager remarked:

The first 17-inch PC slidable display is what we're announcing. This gadget will meet a variety of needs for both portability and a larger screen.

Prior to Microsoft discontinuing support for Windows 10X, an alternative version of Windows for foldable devices, Intel had been experimenting with novel PC form factors and was developing a dual-screen folding device comparable to the Surface Neo. These gadgets rely significantly on their software to run programs and apps consistently; otherwise, they would inevitably malfunction. How Intel intends to make its slidable PC a reality is unknown.

Additionally, Intel demonstrated its brand-new Unison software, which would link computers with Intel processors to smartphones like iPhones. If you want to view a movie or give a presentation on your smartphone, this should enable you to use a much larger display.

Collaboration between Samsung and Intel

Regarding Intel, the business has been experimenting for the past few years with a variety of unusual PC form factors. Before Microsoft decided to focus its preparations for Windows 10X on the foldable, the corporation was preparing for a dual-screen and foldable future. The necessity for new software and applications that are fully optimized for computers with new shapes and factors should be mentioned here. How Intel will market slideable PCs with appropriate software support is currently unclear.

The Samsung Display prototype gadget can change from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch monitor. The use of the sliding mechanism in computers will be completely innovative. Intel also showcased its cutting-edge Unison display software. iPhones and mobile devices with Intel processors will be able to connect thanks to Intel's Unison software.

Additionally, many smartphone manufacturers, like Oppo, Vivo, and others, are working on slideable displays.
