30 Businesses have been granted permits to produce mobile phones here.

In accordance with the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy, 30 mobile device manufacturers are now authorized to produce their products locally by setting up manufacturing facilities across the nation, the Ministry of Industries and Production informed the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Industries and Production and Engineering Development Board (EDB) have taken several efforts for developing new industries to meet local demand and increase production of export-quality items, it was revealed in response to a query posed by MNA Wajiha Qamar.

The Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy and the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy are two significant recent strategies to promote local manufacturing (2021-26).

30 mobile manufacturers have received permits under the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy to begin producing mobile devices locally by establishing facilities here.

A number of new manufacturers have started building/assembling new brands of vehicles as part of the Auto Development Policy (2016–21).

Another project for import substitution and export enhancement is Greenfield Technology. According to this plan, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) offers various tax and duty advantages to businesses who develop new technologies that can lead to creative product design and lower production costs.

EDB recommends the licences to such businesses after physically inspecting their manufacturing facilities. EDB has granted greenfield status in 9 situations under SROs 777 and 887.

In addition to the aforementioned policies, EDB is currently developing a variety of other policies to support local manufacturing and export. These include, among others, the policies for the manufacture of solar panels, agricultural implements, steel, and petrochemicals.

Through a variety of strategies, the EDB is also helping companies boost production and exports.
