IT Ministry Meeting to Discuss Wi-Fi 6E Adoption in Pakistan

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom met here on Friday to go over the deployment of Wi-Fi 6E technology in Pakistan. Member Telecom Omar Malik served as the meeting's chairman. The discussion at the meeting focused on Pakistan's potential adoption of forthcoming indoor-outdoor Wi-Fi 6E band technologies and equipment.

Dr. Ismail Shah, Head of Connectivity and Access Policy-APAC at Meta, Mudassar Naveed, Director General of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority's Strategy and Development, Director Frequency Allocation Board, Director Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO/PAKSAT), Director General of the Frequency Allocation Board, Director General of Wireless MoITT, and other government officials attended.

A committee has already been established under PTA for the adoption of Wi-Fi 6E technology to ensure that Pakistan is promptly included in the Wi-Fi 6E emerging technical ecosystem.

In spite of the fact that current home routers or outdoor Wi-Fi devices are connected to fibre optic cables, current Wi-Fi technology for end users creates a latency and capacity showstopper for next-generation technological advancements like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), industrial and domestic robots, Metaverse, and mass adoption of ultra-low latency gaming and animation business cases.

In addition to Wi-Fi 6E, the Internet of Things regime has already been opened in Pakistan for widespread adoption of agritech, smart homes, safe cities, disaster management, industrial automation, remote sensing, and lighthouse networks. This is in the interest of new businesses and small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).
